Slanty Eyed Mama have been on the forefront of Asian American counterculture since early 2001.  Experimenting with hip hop, spoken word, electro, and pop, they have developed a funky urban asian vibe.  Combining the electric violin riffs, samples, bowing and pizzicato of former Juilliard virtuoso turned rocker Lyris Hung with Lady's K's ryhmes that flow along an asian slant, they have developed a style described as nuyorasian audio.  Lyris performs with a set of pedals and hookups to sample herself lie in performance while alternating between playing her violin with a bow, picking it like a banjo and slamming it like an electric guitar.  Having trained since the age of 3 in classical violin, Lyris cut her rock teeth with artists like Bono, Suzanne Vega, Bryan Adams, Mila Drumke and most recently playing with her own Metal Bannd HUNG.  Joining creative forces with Lady K (Kate Rigg) a poet/comedian/actor and colleague from Juilliard, Slanty eyed mama was formed to find a voice for generasian-next.

Slanty Eyed Mama have headlined at:  The Black and Blue Ball in New York, the A/PI Heritage Fest in Union Square Park NYC, The Women In Performance Conference in Toronto, NPN's conference in LA, LA Grand Performances at California Plaza in 2004 and 2005, the Asian American Jazz Fest In Chicago, The Girlfest Hawaii in Honolulu, Michigan Womyn's Music Fest 2005/2006, The Vancouver Intl Comedy Fest, Comedy Central Stage In L.A., The ECAASU Conference, Dixon Place's HOT Festival, The Philadelphia Fringe Fest, and the Perth International Festival.  Their work is featured in PBS's "Race is the Place", and SEX TV's special on Asians and Sexuality. They have played venues as diverse as the casinos in Los Angeles, Cafeterias in Universities and the Smithsonian Institute.

Often joined by cyber buto and ultra stunning modern dancer Sato, Slanty Eyed mama make headlines and cause a stir wherever they go, tackling issues of race and representation, generational conflict, and politics in almost every song.  This ground-breaking combination of music and performance draws a wide range of of listeners and fans. These include everyone from social activists, to online casino gamers, professionals and scholars.

Also rabid freestylers,  most shows involve a rowdy freestyle section incorporating the words and observations of each night's audiences with improvised music words and when sato is there dance.
